A decision has been taken by the local multi-agency resilience group to proactively apply water to the surface of the tar lagoon as a precautionary measure in response to the warm weather, prolonged dry conditions and low rainfall recently experienced.
The action is intended to reduce the potential consequences of a fire should one occur in the local area. Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are attending site from today, Tuesday 4 August, to pump water onto the main lagoon using a nearby hydrant water supply. Arcadis and Lubricants UK Ltd have worked with the wider team to ensure that safe and reliable access arrangements are in place to support the operation. The activity is anticipated to take place during normal daytime working hours and will be closely monitored by Resilience Forum members throughout.
